What is Verification of Aboriginality?
Verification of Aboriginality is the process by which an individual's Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander identity is confirmed through community and organisational processes. This verification is a key component of determining the Indigenous ownership status of a business.
How IBIR Uses Verification
IBIR reviews ownership structures alongside verification of Aboriginality documentation to assess and classify businesses on our register. We work with the IFLA (Indigenous Future Leaders Assembly) framework to ensure rigorous and culturally appropriate assessment processes.
Accepted Documentation
IBIR accepts Confirmation of Aboriginality from recognised Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community organisations, Land Councils, and other bodies authorised to provide such documentation.
Important Notice
IBIR does not itself verify Aboriginality. We rely on existing community and organisational verification processes. Our role is to assess business ownership structures in the context of verified identity documentation.
